Fearless?

“Conquer your fear of public speaking!”
“You can become fearless!”
“Overcome public speaking fear!”

I have come across many programs that claim to eliminate the fear of public speaking.  Respectfully, I disagree with all of them.

Being in front of an audience is inherently scary.  You are alone…exposed…vulnerable.  You have something you need to share, introduce, or sell.  The pressure to succeed is tremendous.  The price for failure is immense.  Studies indicate that 3 of 4 people admit to some level of stage fright.  Experience indicates that the 4th person is fibbing.

Taking the fear out of public speaking would be like taking the fall out of skydiving.  One is an elemental part of the other.  And while the prospect of hurtling toward the earth may seem less terrifying than talking to a group, public speaking is not an optional activity for business people.  Graduating from panicked to polished begins with a new perspective – a new understanding of the elements of your presentation style, and the source of your PRESENTATION POWER.
